Tekkon Kinkreet
While Sony Pictures released Tekkon Kinkreet in the US on Blu-ray not long after the format launch back in 2007, the film is getting a new release after a long time out of the market. Last year saw UK distributor Anime Limited bringing it out in that market, and we learned recently that GKIDS had picked it up in North America. The distributor is likely to bring out a home video release later this year – a potential 4K UHD in the offing – but initially we’re going to get a theatrical release to celebrate its twentieth anniversary.
That’s set for a May 31st and June 1st, 2026, release date, and GKIDs has now brought out a new English-dubbed trailer to highlight its release below. The distributor previously brought out a Japanese-language trailer with subtitles. You can see where it’s playing here.
The 2006 feature film was directed by Michael Arias from the screenplay by Anthony Weintraub, as it adapted Taoyi Matsumoto’s original manga. Shojiro Nishim handled the character designs with Studio 4C handling the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes Kazunari Ninomiya as Kuro and Yū Aoi as Shiro. An English dub was produced by Studiopolis for Sony with a cast that includes Elliot Fletcher as White, Kamali Minter as White, Scott Menville as Black, Alex Fernandez as Choco, David Lodge as Suzuki, Dwight Schultz as Snake, Phil LaMarr as Dusk, Quinton Flynn as Vanilla, Yuri Lowenthal as Dawn, John Di Maggio as The Boss, Kate Higgins as Kimura’s Wife, Maurice LaMarche as Fujimura, Rick Gomez as Kimura, Steven Jay Blum as Doctor, and Tom Kenny as Sawada.
Previously released Japanese trailer:
Plot concept: In Treasure Town, where the moon smiles and young boys can fly, life can be both gentle and brutal. This is never truer than for our heroes, Black and White, two street urchins who watch over the city, doing battle with an array of old-world Yakuza and alien assassins vying to rule the decaying metropolis. Tekkon Kinkreet is a dynamic tale of brotherhood that addresses the faults of present-day society, true love lost, and the kindness of the human heart.
