Seven Seas Entertainment announced in May 2024 the license acquisition of the manga series The Barbarian’s Bride by Noriaki Kotoba. Known originally as Hime Kishi wa Barbaroi no Yome, it began in 2021 and is listed as ongoing in Japan. The first volume saw an October 15th, 2024, release, and that came right alongside the reveal in Japan that an anime adaptation was in the works for the property with plans for a 2025 debut.
Crunchyroll picked up the series under the new localized name of The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King, and everything was on track for a fall 2025 debut, until September 2025, when it was delayed to April 2026.
With an April 9th, 2026, premiere date, the latest update is from the production as they’ve set the home video releases in Japan. The series is getting a three-volume release on Blu-ray only, where each set is priced at 13,000 yen. Check out the full schedule and known deatils below.
The series has Takayuki Tanaka directing it from the scripts overseen by Miya Sakawa. Masayoshi Kikuchi is handling the character designs along with Mayumi Fujita and Hajime Hatakeyama. Jumondo is handling the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes Satoshi Inomata as Veor, Sayumi Suzushiro as Serafina de Lavillant, Aki Toyosaki as Alyssa Marsius, Hana Hishikawa as Cersei, Miyu Tomita as Kimaki, Hiroshi Kamiya as Sidius, Hisako Kanemoto as Kofa, Ayaka Asai as Vyufmec, Yūsuke Kobayashi as Calca Lot, Yurika Kubo as Nimuhara, Kōichi Sōma as Vas, Yasuhiro Kikuchi as Guas, Shinpachi Tsuji as Balhas, and Yō Taichi as Nyrea.
The opening song has Mayu Maeshima performing “Beautiful,” while sajou no hana performs the ending theme song “Shiru Beki Koto.”

Plot Concept: Serafina de Lavillant, the strongest female knight in the West, was sent to subjugate the barbaric tribes of the East. But when her mission fails spectacularly, she’s captured alive and imprisoned. Humiliated and dreading what horrific torture she’ll endure, she asks to be put to death. To her surprise, rather than tearing her limb from limb, the tribe leader asks for her hand…in marriage! Will Serafina face a cruel and abusive arranged marriage? Or will she discover that these tribes aren’t as barbaric as she was led to believe?
