Progress continues with the Lanterns series for HBO with a new update on it. The eight-episode series comes from Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King with Mundy serving as the showrunner.
With a lot of the main production and filming done, the series is on track for an August 16th,2026, debut. The first teaser in early March 2026 got a lot of people excited, but the lack of the Green part of Green Lantern left a lot of others concerned about how much it would draw from the source material. Well, a second teaser has now landed below that provides just a bit more of an idea of what’s to come.
The cast includes:
- Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern
- Aaron Pierre as John Stewart/Green Lantern
- Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kerry
- Garret Dillahunt as William Macon
- Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro
- Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner
James Gunn talked about it previously, saying, “This is a story of a couple of Green Lanterns: John Stewart and Hal Jordan, and we have a few other Lanterns peppered in there, but this is really a terrestrial-based TV show, which is almost like True Detective with a couple of Green Lanterns who are space cops watching over precinct Earth. In it, they discover a terrifying mystery that ties into our larger story of the DCU.”
Plot Concept: The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.
