And among global heavyweights like London, Paris and New York City, one popular Indian city has bagged a spot on the elusive list. Drumrolls, please! We are talking about Jaipur.
Which world city topped the global rankings?
According to the report, London was named the world’s best city for culture in 2026 as it amassed attention for its spectacular museums, theatres, live music venues and year-round cultural calendar.
Time Out highlighted the city’s combination of historic institutions and constantly evolving creative spaces as a major reason behind its top ranking.
Paris closely followed London and achieved the second rank. New York City, Berlin, and Cape Town occupied the third, fourth, and fifth ranks respectively.
Other cities that made it to Time Out’s top 20 world cities in culture and art included Melbourne, Madrid, Florence, Copenhagen, Cairo, Lisbon and Chiang Mai.
Jaipur is the only Indian city on the prestigious list
Jaipur, the only Indian city on the list, secured the 18th spot on the global list.
Known as the Pink City, it was acknowledged for its rich blend of history, architecture, crafts, markets and living cultural traditions.
Not just that, the city is home to iconic landmarks such as Hawa Mahal, Amber Fort and Jantar Mantar, many of which contribute to its UNESCO World Heritage status.
Unlike cities where culture is largely confined to museums or galleries, Jaipur’s appeal lies in how deeply art and tradition are woven into daily life. From hand-block printing workshops and gemstone markets to folk performances and traditional Rajasthani cuisine, this stunning city offers visitors an immersive cultural experience rather than a purely tourist-driven one.

Why Jaipur stands out internationally
What makes Jaipur particularly distinctive is the balance between preservation and everyday life. Its historic walled city still functions as a bustling commercial and residential hub, while local artisans continue practising centuries-old crafts including blue pottery, textile dyeing and miniature painting.
The city’s festivals and public celebrations also play a major role in its cultural identity. Events such as the Jaipur Literature Festival, one of the world’s largest literary gatherings, have helped position the city as an international creative destination beyond its royal heritage.
Online discussions among travellers frequently describe Jaipur as one of India’s most visually striking and culturally immersive cities, especially for first-time visitors exploring Rajasthan.
