Sony Pictures Television and Prime Video premiered a second trailer for Spider-Noir at this weekend’s CCXPMX convention in Mexico, available to watch now in color and black-and-white.
Starring Nicolas Cage, Spider-Noir follows Ben Reilly, a Spider-Man variant and a private investigator in 1930s New York, who used to be the vigilante known as the Spider. The trailer reveals him mourning someone named “Ruby,” who apparently drowned in a car accident, and coming out of retirement after clashing with Flint Marko/Sandman (Jack Huston), after being asked to find him by singer Cat Hardy (Li Jun Li).
Other villains featured include Brendan Gleeson‘s fearsome mob boss Silvio “Silvermane” Manfredi; Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone (Abraham Popoola); the electrifying Dirk Leydon/Megawatt (Andrew Lewis Caldwell); and the fire-wielding Jimmy Addison (Jack Mikesell), whose character does not have a comics counterpart. Like Tobey Maguire‘s Peter Parker, and Tom Holland‘s in the upcoming film Brand New Day (out in theaters July 31), Cage’s Reilly is portrayed as having organic webshooters.
The trailer was revealed at CCXP alongside an extended preview for attendees, who can obtain five badges designed by Jorge Molina (Spider-Geddon), featuring the Spider, Tombstone, Sandman, Megawatt, and Silvermane & Hardy. A prequel comic by Marc Guggenheim, Jay Martin, and Stefano Raffaele was also made available at the convention, and will be again at various other functions in the coming weeks.
Created by Oren Uziel (The Lost City) and Steve Lightfoot (The Punisher) with Spider-Verse producers Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, and Chris Miller (whose recent triumph for Amazon MGM, Project Hail Mary, is shouted out in the trailer), Spider-Noir will premiere on MGM+ on Monday, May 25, before releasing in its entirety on Prime Video two days later. Like the preview, the show will be available to watch in color or black-and-white.
