This spring, Image Comics is bringing you The Author Immortal: Volume One: Death of the Author, a “queer portal fantasy graphic novel” written by Frank J. Barbiere (Five Ghosts, Violent Love) with watercolor art by Morgan Beem (Swamp Thing: Twin Branches, You Belong Here, The Family Trade). The upcoming collection of the monthly series will be arriving at your Local Comic Shop now. So when can you expect when you pick up The Author Immortal: Volume One?
The Author Immortal: Volume One
Here’s the official description of The Author Immortal from the publisher:
“The Author Immortal follows Hector Ramirez, a failed writer who gets the opportunity of a lifetime: to help reboot the fantasy book series that defined his childhood. But when he discovers the original author has mysteriously vanished into his fictional world, Hector is pulled into a realm where stories are alive, and some are willing to kill to stay in control.
“The Author Immortal takes readers on a fantastical new adventure where the perils of every cliffhanger quite literally leap from the page and the magic and mayhem of storytelling comes alive. A story about the stories that shape us and the power they still hold.”
The Trade Paperback (TPB) collection boasts a cover by cover art by “two-time Caldecott Honor and multiple Clio Award winning illustrator Yuko Shimizu (The Cat Man of Aleppo, Up, Up, Ever Up!).”
Coming This May
Currently, The Author Immortal is already available at your LCS. The TPB collection The Author Immortal: Volume One will arrive everywhere else books are borrowed or sold beginning on May 5th, 2026.
