One of the greatest horror franchises returns this summer with Evil Dead Burn. Helmed by Infested director Sébastian Vaniček, this is the sixth film in the storied horror franchise following Evil Dead Rise in 2023 (which made The Beat’s Best Horror films of that year). Not much has been revealed about the latest entry until now. A teaser trailer has been released along with a plot synopsis per Bloody Disgusting.
The trailer shows an unnamed young woman crawling through a house as Deadites, the series’ monsters, grab person after person. It’s an eerie, unsettling atmosphere perfect for fans of the series. Per the press release
“Evil Dead Burn unleashes the franchise’s most savage and terrifying ride to date, blazing onto big screens with an all-new chapter of carnage and demonic mayhem.
After the loss of her husband, a woman seeks solace with her in-laws in their secluded family home. As one by one they are transformed into Deadites—turning the gathering into a family reunion from hell—she comes to discover that the vows she took in life… live on even in death.”
While the series is known for defining the splatstick genre (a combination of gory and comedic visuals), this teaser hints a return to the intense horror of the original entry. That original film, made by Sam Raimi on a shoestring and starring a young Bruce Campbell, remains one of the most visceral horror films ever made. It was touted by no less than Stephen King as ” the most ferociously original film” it’s year of release. Seeing a trailer so rooted in pure terror bodes well for this entry.
Fans will get to see for themselves how terrifying it is when Evil Dead Burn releases on July 10th.
