2000 AD has released a 25-second teaser trailer for the Rogue Trooper movie, written and directed by Duncan Jones (Moon, Warcraft), and starring Aneurin Barnard (Dunkirk, 1899) as the title character.
Created by Gerry Finley-Day and Dave Gibbons in 1981, Rogue Trooper is 19, a Genetic Infantryman “who finds himself the sole-survivor of an invasion force” on another planet. “Desperate to track down the traitor who sold him and his comrades out, the super soldier is accompanied by three killed-in-action squad mates, whose personalities have been stored in his gun, helmet and backpack.” As brief as the footage is, it looks very comics accurate, complete with Rogue Trooper’s characteristic glowing eyes.
The animated film was realized with performance capture, and the cast also includes Jack Lowden, Daryl McCormack, and Reece Shearsmith (who is heard in the trailer) as 19’s Gunnar, Helm, and Bagman; Hayley Atwell as Venus Bluegenes; Diane Morgan as Colonel Logan; Jemaine Clement and Matt Berry as Mr. Bland and Mr. Brass; and Alice Lowe, Asa Butterfield, and Sean Bean in undisclosed roles.
Rogue Trooper doesn’t have a distributor or release date at the time of writing, but you can stay up to date via the official website. It will mark Jones’s first film since 2018’s Netflix release Mute. In the meantime, you can read a new interview with Jones and producer Stuart Fenegan at Deadline; check out four new stills below; and revisit the first pictures that were released last summer.
