Marvel Television has released the trailer for The Punisher: One Last Kill, the new special arriving on Disney+ on Tuesday, May 12, at 9pm ET.
Marvel’s official synopsis describes the special as finding Jon Bernthal‘s Frank Castle “search[ing] for meaning beyond revenge, when an unexpected force pulls him back into the fight.” The trailer shows him in a very dark and lonely place, presumably haunted by how he became an inspiration to Mayor Wilson Fisk’s Anti-Vigilante Taskforce on Daredevil: Born Again, as well as his old friend and fellow military veteran Curtis Hoyle (Jason R. Moore), who has apparently died in the years since the Netflix Punisher series.
In the frenzied montage that follows, it appears Frank resumes the mantle of the Punisher once again after a young girl he befriends, Charli (played by newcomer Mila Jaymes), is kidnapped. Judging from the shop sign at the end of the trailer, the perpetrators are the Gnucci crime family, whose matriarch, “Ma” Gnucci, was a prominent villain in Garth Ennis and the late Steve Dillon‘s seminal run on the Punisher comic in the 2000s.
Written by Bernthal with director Reinaldo Marcus Green, The Punisher: One Last Kill will mark a decade since the actor debuted as the character on season two of Netflix’s Daredevil. Despite the title, it won’t be the last time we see his version of the Punisher in action, as he’ll return (in his first appearance on the big screen) in Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31.
In the meantime, Daredevil: Born Again season two will conclude the week before One Last Kill‘s release, on May 5. You can check new key art for the special in the meantime below:
