Perfect Blue is rightfully considered one of the best anime movies of all time, so it’s no surprise that it continues to get love from physical distributors. Following up on a collector’s edition steelbook from December, Perfect Blue is getting a new limited edition 4K steelbook that’s now up for preorder.
Set to release on June 16, the new steelbook is $25 less than the existing collector’s edition (currently down to $41 on Amazon or $38.99 on Gruv), but still includes all of the same digital special features.

Satoshi Kon’s directorial debut has long been one of my favorite movies, period. I know I started this off with the ‘best anime movie’ caveat, but I truly do not think that moniker does this psychological thriller justice. This is a rare movie that gets under your skin and never really leaves, making it a worthy addition to any shelf.

This new limited edition steelbook kicks things off with a fresh cover design based on Satoshi Kon’s original illustrations. A darker illustration of Mima is on the front, with a group shot of Mima as part of the girl group CHAM! on the back. Open up the steelbook and you’ll see images of the audience watching Mima’s performance from the opening scene.

This is actually the second limited edition steelbook release for Perfect Blue, following up on a Blu-ray steelbook that was released back in 2021. You can still find some listings for that one floating around from third-party resellers, though you’ll also find hiked prices.
