INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indianapolis Public Schools nurse is drawing inspiration from her own life to publish a book for kids.
Hailley Pearl, alongside her 4-year-old corgi co-star, Milo, joined News 8 on Daybreak to highlight her children’s book, ‘Milo’s World: The Wall Ate My Mom Again.’ The story is rooted in a relatable and humorous moment from Milo’s everyday life: bath time.
Through Milo’s imaginative perspective, what might seem like a simple routine becomes a dramatic adventure, offering young readers both laughter and reassurance. Pearl explained that the main point of the book is how to conquer fear.
“Milo is terrified of the shower,” she said. “He thinks it eats his mom every single night.”
Pearl said she became inspired to write this book whenever she became a nurse and adopted Milo. “I just love taking care of kids from the physical and emotional side of things. And this is something that kids can relate to,” she said. Maybe not being scared of the bath, but having fears.”
Peral said she thinks it’s fun to see things from other people’s perspectives, even her dog’s.
“I love working with people, getting to help kids, getting to advocate for kids is one of the best parts of my job. Nothing can replace that smile on their face whenever I get to fulfill a need that maybe they didn’t even know that they had or that they’ve been trying to communicate but haven’t been able to,” she said. “I love it when they get to meet Milo, too, and their face just lights up.”
Pearl said that her and Milo definitely have more adventures ahead.
