With a live-action film out on June 7th, 2024, in Japan, the Ikoku Nikki manga from Tomoko Yamashita saw a full reprint at the time to make sure that it’ll be on shelves for potential new fans. The full eleven-volume series is going to be reprinted. The property originally began in 2017 and wrapped up with eleven volumes in 2023. Then, in May 2024, we learned that an anime adaptation is in the works. Miyuki Oshiro will be directing it from the series composition by Kohei Kiyasu. Kenji Hayama is on board for the character designs, with SHUKA handling the animation production.
With a January 4th, 2026, premiere date, the production has set the home video releases with two Blu-ray sets scheduled. The sets are priced at 14,500 yen each, with six episodes on the first and seven on the second set.
The first set is coming up in a few weeks, and we now have a look at the cover artwork for it below. Check out the full schedule and known details below.
The Japanese cast includes Miyuki Sawashiro as Makio Kōdai, Fuko Mori as Asa Takumi, Junichi Suwabe as Shingo Kasamachi, Sumire Morohoshi as Emiri Nara, Eriko Matsui as Nana Daigo, Takashi Kondō as Kazunari Tōno, and Sayaka Ōhara as Minori.
TOMOO is performing the opening theme song “Sonare” while Bialystocks will perform “Kotozute” as the ending theme song.
Yamashita’s first published work was in 2005 with Comic DanDan: Toko x Otoko and they’ve had two dozen works since then.

Plot Concept: The manga centers on 35-year-old novelist Makio Koudai and her 15-year-old niece Asa, who live together under one roof. Makio took Asa in on a sudden impulse after Asa’s parents, which included Makio’s older sister, passed away. The next day, Makio returns to her senses and remembers that she does not do well in the company of other people. So begins their daily life, as Makio attempts to acclimate to a roommate, while Asa attempts to get used to an adult who never acts like one.
